Most people I know are unhappy

Out of all the people I know through all kinds of reasons I would say the majority of them are unhappy. I wonder if this is just an anomaly or is it the same for everyone?
As you get older you realise that life is such a fucked up thing that you either need to work quite hard at happiness, or just be really dumb to achieve it. Ignorance is bliss I suppose
The happiest people I know are the simple housewives who's job is to look after the house and kids (I don't know if their husbands feel the same) So much for feminism eh

Lots of folk I know are bored and worried. I wouldn't call them 'unhappy'.
People seem to worry for a hobby these days.
Also its important to find out what REALLY makes you happy, not just what current orthodoxy tells you will make you happy.
Women have it really hard as they are constantly told what will make them happy - wine, gin, shoes, bags, jewellery etc it's all BS
Same with us blokes but less so I guess.

It helps to accept the negative stuff for what it is, acknowledge it and let it stand together with the neutral and the positive. Then there is a chance of learning and managment. The worse thing to do is to create rationalisations for the bad emotions so that they are not your responsibility but someone else's.
And there is certainly no shortage of that kind of rationalisation provided for you. These days they are known as 'self-affermation politics' and are a super growth market, and I believe it is a key element of happiness to be able to stand up to this and hit back.

I think that the reason most people are unhappy is that most people are basically selfish, unpleasant cunts which comes from weakness and insecurity. I think inner strength and the desire to genuinely treat people well and look after your fellow man come hand in hand with happiness. A basic survival instinct perhaps?

Happiness can be found in all different places for all different people. Unhappiness to me stems from chasing your dream instead of living your dream whatever that may be.

If you are unhappy then do something about it. I see a lot of people whinging how crap their lives are yet sit there and do bugger all. My life was tosh so I left Romford and my Job in London and now I live in Bournemouth. Best move I did and dont regret it. If you want to do something then go and do it. No regrets, no excuses.

Our 3 bed bungalow in Rochford even if I won the big one I would not move... abso fucking LOVE living where we do and could not be happier... in anycase if we sold it the new owners would find me missus body buried in the back garden...

I agree with that. Nothing wrong with a nice lump of Stilton and a glass of Port. One of me and the missus' pleasures is treating ourselves to some top nosh and a few bottles of red.
I also think you should aspire to get he best of what you can get, within reason.

What if you genuinely enjoy nice food and wine?
What if you strive to actually experience things and live well off what you earn before you die?
This notion of disregarding all ambition for spiritual contentedness is what has driven pretty much every single religion on the planet for centuries, and if we all adopted it we'd never progress as individuals or a species.

Indeed we do have it all wrong.
Most people only realise when they get to latter life, me included.
Absolutely none of it matters. You throw away 99.9% of "stuff" you ever had by your 70s and 80s and sell you house (if you are lucky enough to have one) to live in a small, manageable place or care home.
Even in a large house you live in 2 rooms mostly.
As that old 80s classic said "its just an illusion" :-)
People not feeling others will respect or like them if they drive a 2001 Nissan Micra rather than a 1 or 2 year old BMW or Mercedes? Pretentiousness rules I suppose. People drinking wines and eating fancy cheese, cooking meals and giving everything fancy names, buying Agas for the kitchen. Consumerism and its indoctrination has been a complete success since Thatcher and Reagan introduced neo-liberal economics of deregulation.
It took 30 years of borrowing until in 2007 - 2009 ish, the credit card statement came in and the house of cards collapsed for many people excluding the elites who made all the money from it :-)
Consumerism and celebrity the new "opium for the masses". You gotta laugh :-)

we live in a society that worships money, fame and looks. the average person on the street is bombarded with images and stories of what a 'good life' looks like.
my generation aspires to be like Joey Essex or Jade Goody instead of a doctor or a lawyer. They also seem to think they are intitled to wealth.
we have it all wrong.
